Tolerating Intolerance

I got this email today, apparently, it's a quote from Bill Maher on tolerance. I have no idea whether or not he actually said these things, and I don't really care.

Here's the quote:

"I am perplexed that so many of my friends are against a mosque being built near Ground Zero. I think it should be the goal of every American to be tolerant. The mosque should be allowed, in an effort to promote tolerance.

That is why I also propose, that two gay nightclubs be opened next door to the mosque thereby promoting tolerance within the mosque. We could call the clubs "The Turban Cowboy" and "You Mecca Me So Hot".

Next door should be a butcher shop that specializes in pork and have an open barbeque with spare ribs as its daily special.

Across the street a very daring lingerie store called "Victoria Keeps Nothing Secret” with sexy mannequins in the window modeling the goods.

Next door to the lingerie shop, there would be room for an Adult Toy Shop (Koranal Knowledge?), its name in flashing neon lights, and on the other side a liquor store, maybe call it "Morehammered"?"
Although I don't really like the tone of the email, because it seems to be promoting the view that most Muslims are intolerant and that therefore we shouldn't be tolerant of them, I believe a lesson can be learned from this whole Mosque story and many others like it.

And the lesson is this, "who cares if some Americans can't stand the idea of having a mosque near WTC, and who cares if some Muslims can't stand the idea of having a sex shop in front of their mosque" Let them be intolerant, most humans can't read properly, and we expect them to have complex thoughts?

And secondly, stop giving them AIRTIME, do we enjoy watching sub-par humans on television or something?

That said, this is my last comment on that subject ;)
